Dr. Paulo S. Costa and Dr. Fernanda Ponte, Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist respectfully, of Julio Teixeira, SA, carried out their specialities with the senology team at the CUF Hospital – Viseu last March, in their first Intra-Operatory Radiotherapy procedure as part of conservative breast surgery. This procedure was also attended by Dr. Fleming de Olveira, coordinator of the breast unit at ICUF – Porto.
This technique has been carried out since the 27th of April 2012 at ICUF Porto, and involves the application of a single dose of concentrated radiation to the bed of the tumour during the course of surgery.
