Acelerador Linear TRUEBEAM

Júlio Teixeira, SA, acquired and put into operation, with the first treatments carried out last July, a Linear Accelerator Truebeam from Varian Medical Systems, which it installed in the Radiotherapy Department of the CUF Institute (ICUF), in Matosinhos, as part of the partnership that connects her to this unit.

Júlio Teixeira is thus equipped with 3 Linear Accelerators, one of which is unique nationally (CyberKnife), in addition to High Dose Rate Brachytherapy equipment, thus becoming the largest and most modern private radiotherapy unit in the North of Brazil. Country, and projecting it to the forefront of cancer treatment.
Truebeam is a high-precision linear accelerator, which has the most advanced technologies for Radiotherapy treatments, both in terms of image and in the precision of the treatment beam:

– The fully digital imaging system allows for optimal positioning images, whether planar or three-dimensional (Conebeam CT), with 25% lower patient X-ray doses compared to previous technologies, with acquisition time of the images quite inferior. The image capture system allows specific corrections to be made in relation to the initial planning, in each treatment session.

– The equipment provides a greater range of energies for the treatment beam, namely energies 6 and 10 Mv / FFF that have very high dose rates, particularly indicated in stereotaxic techniques, resulting in faster treatments. High dose rates imply shorter treatment times which means more comfort for the patient and less organ movement during treatments with less irradiation from critical organs and healthy tissue, facilitating the execution of techniques with suspended breathing (Breath Hold – The system Truebeam allows monitoring of the patient’s respiratory cycle; this feature, applied in the treatment of tumors with movements related to breathing, allows to radiate when the tumor is in the optimal position, thus ensuring a lower dose to healthy tissues and critical organs).

The treatment options are flexible, as it allows the administration of different radiotherapy techniques, and it can be used in a wide variety of tumors and in different locations, with submillimeter precision.

This equipment thus complements the solutions already existing in the Department, guaranteeing the Patient the most adequate radiotherapy technical option for the nature of their pathology.
